the Ballad of Bulls Run

by Empty Orchestra

/

about

inspired by the 1936 sit-down strike in Flint, Michigan.

lyrics

these nights are cold, since the company cut off the coal
but we've got burlap to burn on the company floor
and the Michigan winter is long, and the days are slow.

police and guns held back with a fire hose
police have come to shoot tear gas through the windows
and "open fire" is what the bosses said --
if they had their way, then we'd all be dead

when the governor cam to take us away,
when the governor came to take us away,
the company's money paid for the chains
we had one arm behind our backs,
the other balled up in a fist.
we had one arm behind our backs,
the other balled up in a fist.

We are Empty Orchestra, and we are an American musical group from Flint, Michigan.
Our songs are fistfights of traditions and generations and genres and tempos and hope and doubt and death and punchlines. Our roots are in punk rock and our ambitions are for song creation without boundaries.
We are a community. We love making songs, we love playing songs, we love you. Thanks. This is fun.
